Composite image showing the Perseids meteor shower captured over 5 days in August 2023. The Perseids originate from the 109P/Swift-Tuttle comet. As comets orbit the Sun, they leave a trail of dust. Every year Earth passes through these debris trails, causing them to collide with our atmosphere and disintegrate, creating fiery and colourful streaks in the sky, such as the Perseids. The Perseids are visible once a year in mid August, and are best observed in the Northern Hemisphere in the early hours of the morning. Photographed from Poloniny Dark-Sky Park, Slovakia.
