USSR-1 Soviet stratospheric balloon in flight. This hydrogen-filled balloon carried a gondola that was designed to seat a crew of three and perform scientific studies of the Earth's stratosphere. It was launched on 30th September 1933 and set an unofficial world altitude record of 18,500 meters.
