This is the rich star cluster nicknamed Carolines Rose, or officially NGC 7789, in Cassiopeia. Caroline Herschel, sister of William Herschel, discovered it in 1783. In the eyepiece its stars do take on the appearance of nested rose petals. Subtle effects like that are always lost in photos of star clusters.
