Illustration of George Frideric Handel (1685-1759), a German-born composer who settled in London in 1712 and became a naturalised British citizen in 1727. A master of the 18th century oratorio, his style has been called Italianate Baroque. He composed works for state occasions such as the orchestral suites the Water Music commissioned by George I, Music for the Royal Fireworks for George II, and the anthem Zadok the Priest for the coronation of George II in 1727.
