Bricks cut from flintstone nodules or layers as they abound in the Cretaceous chalk sediments of north-east Belgium, notably in the quarry of Eben Emael. These bricks, thanks to their high hardness (7 on the scale of Mohs) are used for the interior lining of horizontally rotating grinding mills. Other terms for flintstone are chert, silex and chalcedony.
