Basidiocarp (spore-forming structure) of a Moniliophthora perniciosa fungus. This structure releases spores which can infect woody plants, causing witches-broom disease (WBD). This disease causes dense masses of shoots to grow from a single point on infected plants. These masses can reduce yield in agricultural plants, but in some cases serve as nests for certain species of mammals, insects and birds.
