The Preston Exhibition of Works of Art and Industry, 1865. The Exhibition of Works of Art and Industry at Preston, Lancashire, which was...[held] in the Exchange Buildings, Lune-street, includes a picture-gallery, containing several valuable works of Landseer, Turner, Roberts, Frith, Hunt, and others, with a few pieces of sculpture; a collection of specimens of natural history, with scientific instruments and apparatus; mechanical models, machinery in motion; various manufactured products, chiefly of the textile fabrics; and a museum of antiquities and curiosities, mostly of local interest. The exhibition is arranged in the galleries surrounding the area of the Corn Exchange, and in some of the upper apartments; but while the area itself, being required for the weekly corn market, is left clear for ordinary business, a temporary floor has been laid above the area, on a level with the galleries, forming a spacious central hall, where the opening ceremony took place.
