Amoeba protozoan feeding. Fourth in a series of four light micrographs showing a single-celled Amoeba sp. (at centre) engulfing another protozoan, Paramecium sp. (at lower right). The amoeba has extended a pseudopodium (false foot) to attack its prey. The pseudopodium is formed from the flexible wall of the amoeba cell. The paramecium is being engulfed and will be digested within a cavity (vacuole) inside the amoeba cell. This form of feeding is known as phagocytosis. Magnification: x43 at 35mm size.
