Canine parvovirus, illustration. Canine Parvoviruses include the smallest known viruses and some of the most environmentally resistant. Each particle consists of a single-stranded deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) surrounded by an icosahedral protein capsid. It is highly contagious and usually affects dogs and puppies, which have to be vaccinated against it.
