18th century illustration of a male and female Cape rock thrush (Monticola rupestris), a member of the bird family Muscicapidae. This rock thrush breeds in eastern and southern South Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland. It is a common endemic resident, non-migratory apart from seasonal altitudinal movements in some areas. From Histoire Naturelle des Oiseaux d'Afrique (Natural History of Birds of Africa), Volume 3, by Franeois Le Vaillant (1753-1824), published in Paris, France in 1799-1802.
