X-ray of the abdomen of a 1 year old boy with ileocolic intussusception (ICI) causing dilatation of the small intestine (bowel). Intussusception is a condition in which part of the intestines telescopes into an adjacent part. Here it is occurring where the small intestine (ilium) transitions to the large intestine (colon). It causes abdominal pain, nausea and bleeding from the rectum, and the condition is fatal if not corrected.
