Green basilisk (Basiliscus plumifrons) head. This lizard lives near rivers and swamps in the tropical forests of Central America, where it feeds on fruits, frogs, fish and flowers. When forced to flee predators, the basilisk runs fast on its back legs. Its toes cover a large area, allowing it to run upright across water. This ability has led to it being called the Jesus (or Jesus Christ) lizard.
