Samuel Hieronymous Grimm.A view of Burghley House. It was built between 1565 and 1587 by William Cecil; Lord Treasurer to Elizabeth I. He based his design on several other great houses of the period. Externally the house stands today much as it did when it was completed. Internally the house has been furnished to a luxurious standard by the successive generations of the Earls of Exeter; Ink wash on paper.1773.Add. 15542; f. 143London; British Library.
