West Pier, Brighton, Sussex, 1949. The West Pier was built in 1866 as Brighton's second pier, to bring holidaymakers to the resort by steamer. The pier head was extended and a pavilion added in 1893 and a concert hall was added in 1916. The superstructure was severely damaged by fire in 2003.
