Opening of the Turkish Parliament - the Sultan arrives in his box and delivers the Royal Speech(back centre). There is a balcony on the upper right full of the diplomatic Corp, there as observers to the proceedings. Sultan Abdul Hamid II (1842 - 1918) oversaw a period of decline in the power and extent of the Empire, ruling from 31 August 1876 until he was deposed on 27 April 1909. Abdul Hamid II was the last Ottoman Sultan to rule with absolute power.
