The trial of Robert Wood at the New Bailey. Wood was charged with murdering prostitute Emily Dimmock in what became known as the Camden Town Murder, but was acquitted after a brilliant defence by Edward Marshall Hall. The trial took place at the recently opened (hence 'New') Old Bailey (Central Criminal Court) which had been built in 1902 on the site of Newgate gaol. The top photograph shows the court when Wood's father gave evidence; below is a photo of the crowd outside after the verdict was announced.
