Odeon cinema, Leicester Square, Westminster, London, 2 November 1937. Photographed by John Maltby (1910-80) on cellulose nitrate negative. The Alhambra in London's Leicester Square (see CC97_00503) was demolished in 1936. It was replaced by the Odeon chain's flagship, steel-framed cinema, with its distinctive tower and polished black granite exterior. It was one of scores of Odeons recorded by the photographer John Maltby.
