In the 1930s; the Countess de Mangualde planted boxwood gardens east of the palace; designed by Gomes de Amorim. Built during the first half of the 18th century; according to the plans of Nicolau Nasoni; the Solar de Mateus (palace) is considered to be a perfect example of portuguese baroque.
