CAREN Virtual Reality therapy. A Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) patient walking through a Virtual Reality (VR) scenario in a Computer Assisted Rehabilitation Environment (CAREN). CARENs are biomechanical devices which utilise a multi-sensory system where users are fully immersed in a virtual environment. The patient is attached to a safety harness and walks on a treadmill on a platform that moves and rotates in conjunction with movements of the projected environment. Motion capture cameras track the patient's movements via reflective markers, and provide data used for clinical diagnostics, and the evaluation of human movement, balance and gait.
