Map of Mars drawn in 1862 by the British astronomer Richard Proctor (1837-1888). This is one of the earliest maps of the planet. Proctor used 27 drawings by the English observer William Rutter Dawes as his source. His map was later superseded by those of Giovanni Schiaparelli and Eugene Antoniadi and his nomenclature was dropped.
