Saturn's moon Enceladus taken by cameras on NASA's Cassini spacecraft. The colours are enhanced relative to human vision, extending into the ultraviolet and infrared range. The yellowish and magenta tones are due to differences in the thickness of surface deposits. The most recently formed fractures on Enceladus have a stronger, brighter ultraviolet signature and appear more blue. It is thought that this colour could be due to large-grained ice exposed on the surface. Other subtle colour markings are related to the moon's local and regional geologic history.
