SHERLOC instrument on NASA's Mars 2020 rover. SHERLOC stands for Scanning Habitable Environments with Raman and Luminescence for Organics and Chemicals. It is a spectrometer that provides fine-scale imaging. SHERLOC will use an ultraviolet laser to determine fine-scale mineralogy and to detect organic compounds on Mars.
