Bronze statue of Poseidon found in the sea off Boeotia at the site of ancient Kreusis. Originally his eyes would have been inlaid, probably with semi-precious stones. A dedicatory inscription dates the statue at c. 1480. The citadel, or akropolis, of ancient Kreusis lies on the east slope of mount Korombili. Kreusis was the harbor and market outlet for Thespiae and the closest harbor to Thebes on the Corinthian gulf. Also known as the Livadhostro Poseidon, now in the National Museum, it was found in the sea off nearby Haghios Vasilios at the end of the 19th c.
