Meathook Galaxy (NGC 2442), composite image. This spiral galaxy is some 55 million light years from Earth, in the constellation of Volans. It has asymmetric spiral arms, with the longer of the two being the site of intense star formation. This image is a composite of data from the Hubble Space Telescope and the European Southern Observatories (ESO).
