A weed-suppressing fabric membrane being installed to prevent the growth of weeds in a hedgerow. An x-shaped hole is cut in the fabric to accommodate a hedge plant. The fabric is porous, allowing water pass into the plant roots but is dense enough to prevent weeds growing through. These horizontal barriers are covered with a thick layer of soil, mulch, or, as in this case, bark chippings. These fabrics are claimed to be effective with perennial weeds such as bindweed, ground elder, nettles and the brambles of the blackberry plant. They are also useful in stopping the spread of persistent weeds. weed-suppressing, fabric, weeds, perennial, annual, weeding, porous fabric, horizontal barrier, mulch, bark chippings, bindweed, ground elder, nettles, brambles, blackberry, hedge plant, non chemical weed-suppressing, non chemical,
