The Cafe 1893 at the Place de la Comedie, Montpellier, France. Bars and restaurants in the Plaza de la Comedia. It constitutes the nerve center of the city. It is called 'El Huevo' because of its oval shape. It is a symbol of the dynamism that characterizes Montpellier today. In the Plaza we find the Opera Palace, built in the 19th century from the model of the Paris Opera Garnier, and the statue of the Three Graces. The Place de la Comedie has numerous terraces of cafes and restaurants that make it a living space where students and locals converge throughout the day. The city has two operas: The House of Comedy, built in the mid-eighteenth century, which responded to the urgent need of the city to have a theater; and the Berlioz Opera House, built a century later.
