Astor Place in the East Village. Built as a theater in 1847, sadly passed into history by the dispute between actors Edwin Forrest and William Charles Macready. Charles played Macbeth and people went to the streets to protest violently in trifurca that ended with police firing on the crowd, killing 18 people. In addition to housing the theater this place is the meeting point of the neighborhood, and where teens come together to practice skateboarding.
