Light micrograph of a section of human tissue showing adult neuroblastoma. This refers to a cancer that develops from the immature nerve cells found in several parts of the body. It most commonly arises in and around the adrenal glands, which have similar origins to nerve cells and sit atop of the kidneys. However, neuroblastoma can also develop in other areas of the abdomen and in the chest, neck and near the spine, where groups of cells exist. Neuroblastoma is the third most common malignancy of the paediatric population, although extremely rare in the adult population.
