Light micrograph of a section of human cancerous tissue showing vulval cancer. This rare type of cancer occurs on the outer surface of the female genitalia. The vulva is the area of skin that surrounds the urethra and vagina, including the clitoris and labia. The cancer commonly forms as a lump or sore on the vulva that often causes itching. Though it can occur at any age, vulval cancer is mostly diagnosed in older adults. Treatment usually involves surgery to remove the cancer along with a small amount of healthy tissue.
