Folliculostellate cells of pituitary gland, light micrograph. Folliculo-stellate cells are a little-known cell type of the anterior pituitary gland. It is recognized that these cells do not secrete hormones, at least the known anterior pituitary hormones. This statement is based on double immunostaining techniques, combining the demonstration of S-100 (black), typical of folliculo-stellate cells, and immunohistochemical techniques against pituitary hormones (anti-growth hormone technique, brown). By repeating the procedure with all the hormones, it is verified that none is colocalized with the S-100.
