An Italian, he comes into Switzerland for the season, goes back with the money earned which will last him for many months. General laborers, employed for building, road repairs and road construction, harvesting, are mostly Italians; there are too few Swiss to do the general and unspecialized work of this kind, and for generations, Italians, from the northern provinces have been coming into the country on easily obtained but time-limited labour permits.
