Monsoon Failure creates Famine In India - 70-year-old Peasants Beg For Food in the streets of the drought belt. Some 10,000,000 people live in the drought belts, the largest of which is in Rayalaseema, an area some 15,000 square miles in extent, in Madras state, bordering on the state of Hyderabad.
