General Eisenhower Receives Freedom Of The City Of London -- The scene in the historic Guildhall as General Eisenhower receives the token Sword of Honor - the curved sword carried by the famous Duke of Wellington at the Battle of Waterloo - from the Lord Mayor. Seated behind the Prime Minister and the American Ambassador, in the foreground, is the present Duke of Wellington, wearing military uniform, who presented the sword for the occasion. Many distinguished persons can be identified round the greet table. General Dwight D. Eisenhower drove through cheering crowds to the Guildhall, where he received the Freedom of the City of London. The Supreme Allied Commander was afterwards guest of honour at a luncheon in the Mansion House, which was attended by the City Corporation, members of the War Cabinet, and many other distinguished persons, heeded by the Prime Minister. June 12, 1945.
