18th century illustration of Louis-Jean-Marie Daubenton (1716-1799), French scientist, naturalist and physician. Daubenton worked with Buffon on his grand treatise of natural history, providing anatomical descriptions of quadrupeds. He also studied botany, mineralogy, comparative anatomy and experimental agriculture. Illustration by French sculptor and medallist Adrien Feart (1843).
