Before being built into a tomb, this sculpture was part of a larger whole. It depicts an archer, the central notch being his nose, the face of which was later filled in with the image of a rising sun. He is wearing a patterned tunic and his arms are bent inwards at mid height and the hands are linked together immediately above his belt. The statue is highly stylised and shows the archer's head at the top and his bow and arrows as diagonal lines below it. This is among the earliest sculptures made in Europe, and such statues were positioned outside tombs in the Alpine foothills. Le Petite Chasseur, Valais, Switzerland. c.2575-2450 BC.
