India: The colonial-style bungalow known as Kipling's House in the grounds of Sir Jeejeebhoy (J.J.) School of Art in Mumbai (formerly Bombay). Writer Rudyard Kipling (1865 - 1936), well-known for books like 'The Jungle Book' and 'Kim', is commonly said to have been born here in 1865. His father, John Lockwood Kipling, had been appointed professor of architectural sculpture at J.J. School of Art, later he became its dean. He and his family were accommodated on site, living in the type of rambling, spacious bungalow the colonial British cherished, surrounded by lush greenery and cheerful birdsong.
