Mottled umber (Erannis defoliaria) moth of the family geometridae. The female of this species are wingless and the markings of the males can either be banded or uniformly brown. It is common throughout much of the palearctic region. The larval food plants are a wide range of broad leaved trees and shrubs. Photographed in Somerset, UK, in September.
