Close-up of a paper wasp (Polistes dominula). This species lives in small colonies in grassland and forest environments. However this colony had chosen a disused street lamp to build its nest. It is widely found across Southern Europe and North Africa and has spread to the US and Canada. Photographed in Corfu, Greece, in July.
