Illustration of Cheddar Man (Homo sapiens), based on the complete male skeleton found in Gough's Cave, Cheddar Gorge, Somerset, UK. The fossils date to 9000 years ago. The skeleton was discovered in 1903 and is the UK's oldest complete human skeleton. DNA analysis of the specimen suggests the darker skin tone shown here, though it is not possible to be certain about the skin colours of prehistoric humans.
