Remains of a beehive hut, Ireland. Beehive huts, known locally as clochain, are drystone constructions, mostly of round form, typically found in Ireland. They served as dwellings for monks, usually in some religious or sacred context. They are most numerous in County Kerry with origins dating back as far as the 6th century, with some thought be from as far back as pre-Roman times.
