Illustration of Spinosaurus aegyptiacus dinosaurs hunting for Onchopristis fish on the shore. Spinosaurus was a large theropod dinosaur that lived 155 million years ago. It had a large sail along its back formed from very long neural spines. The sail was thought to act as a thermoregulator or sexual display. It's teeth and jaw shape indicates that it fed mainly on fish. It is thought that it spent most of it's life in the water and is the only dinosaur found so far believed to have lived this way. The largest specimen measured 18 metres in length making it the largest carnivorous dinosaur that ever lived. In the background at right a Deltadromeus dinosaur is eating a fish. In the foreground is a Neoceratodus africanus lung fish (centre), Apertotemporalis turtles (left) and a Crocodylomorph (right).
