Illustration of Quaoar (centre) and its ring. Quaoar is a dwarf planet located 6.5 billion kilometres from Earth in the Kuiper Belt. Quaoar?檚 moon Weywot is at left, whilst the Sun is at right. Quaoar's ring is composed of debris and was discovered through a series of observations between 2018-2021. The ring is at a distance of seven and a half times the radius of Quauoar. At this distance it would be expected for the debris to coalesce into a moon.
