Jose Manuel Rodriquez Delgado (1915-2011), Spanish neurophysiologist. Delgado was a pioneer of using implanted electrodes to stimulate the brain to bring about behavioural changes. He invented the 'stimoceiver', radio-equipped electrodes that were operated remotely and that he implanted into an array of animals including cats, bulls and chimpanzees as well as into humans. Delgado also investigated deep brain stimulation for the treatment of diseases such as epilepsy and depression and for the treatment of pain.
