Allosaurus dinosaur, artwork. Allosaurs were large carnivorous therapods that lived during the late Jurassic period (150 to 155 million years ago) in what is now North America. They were bipedal (two-legged) predators that averaged a height of 8.5 metres. They were the apex predators of their time and have been referred to as the Lion of the Jurassic.
