Gemini spacecraft construction, 1960s. Gemini was an American human spaceflight programme which ran from 1961 to 1966, designed to develop techniques for the Apollo Moon landing missions. The Gemini spacecraft, built by McDonnell Aircraft, carried a two-astronaut crew. It was 5.61 metres long and 3.0 metres wide, with a launch weight varying from 3, 220 to 3, 790 kilogrammes. Ten Gemini crews flew low Earth orbit missions between 1965 and 1966.
