Scientist pulls silk out of spinneretes of pinktoe tarantula Avicularia avicularia in laboratory demonstration. While not all spiders weave webs, they all spin silk, yards of it at a time, which is used in nest building and prey capture. Spider silk is one of the strongest fibers known and scientists are trying to replicate it for use in body armour and other products.
