Purple martin Progne subis skims over lake in Ohio snatching insects on the fly. These bird are aerial acrobats and can reach a speed of 50 kilometres per hour. They are the largest North American swallows and are common throughout the eastern half of the U.S., parts of the West Coast, and southern Canada.
