This actinosphaerium, or 磗un animacule? is a heliozoan protozoan with radiating pseudopodia that resemble spines and is related to amoebas. The pseudopodia are used for locomotion and prey capture. You can see tiny protozoa stuck to a few of the spines. This actinosphaerium is approximately 500 microns across and was recorded under Nomarski DIC illumination.
