Didinium nasutum undergoing binary fission, an asexual process through which a parent protozoan divides, resulting in two identical daughter cells. This is near the end of the procdess, just before the two divide. The two Paramecium swimming next to them are lucky the Didinia are occupied, as Paramecia are their favorite food. Recorded under Nomarski DIC illumination.
