Asian tiger (Aedes albopictus) mosquito larvae floating just beneath surface of water. The larvae are able to breath by using a snorkel-like respiratory tube. This mosquito is native to southeast Asia but has invaded other regions in recent years through international transport and travel. It is a vector for West Nile virus, yellow fever and dengue fever. Mosquitos undergo complete metamorphosis, a process that includes four stages: egg, larva, pupa and adult.
